Motorcyclist killed, 6 hospitalized after 'serious collision' near Middleton Place

DORCHESTER COUNTY, S.C. (WCBD) – State troopers are investigating after one person was killed and six people were hospitalized from a Thursday afternoon crash near Middleton Place.
The collision occurred at 2:06 p.m. on Highway 61 near Middleton Lakes Road and Bees Ferry Road.
A 2020 Land Rover was traveling north when it stuck a Honda motorcycle also traveling north. After striking the motorcycle, the Land Rover then collided with a Honda SUV.
The motorcyclist was killed as a result of the collision, according to Cpl. Nick Pye with the South Carolina Highway Patrol. The Dorchester County Coroner’s Office has not yet identified the deceased.
Five people who were in the SUV were all taken to a local hospital. The driver of the Land Rover was also taken to a nearby hospital. The extent of their injuries is unknown.
The collision shut down the portion of the roadway for several hours while crews worked to clear the scene.
Multiple agencies responded to the collision, including the Charleston Police Department.
The South Carolina Highway Patrol is the lead investigative agency.
