BISMARCK, ND (KXNET) — For years, people have been asking 'How do I get rid of big items I can't haul to the landfill?' Now, one city has a solution. Starting next month, Bismarck will be testing out a new way to help you get rid of large trash items. Public Works is launching a pilot program in January to collect bulk trash items, right from your curbside. Where germs are lurking the most in the workplace The goal is to give you a simple option for furniture, appliances, or anything that won't fit in your garbage can. But you do have to pay for it. It will cost a $20 service fee that's good for up to five items, plus a landfill cost for each one. And you do have to call ahead. "Once a month, we're going to go out and do a bulky item pickup. So if anybody has something that they want picked up, they can call into our office. We'll get them on the schedule, and then we'll let them know that on this certain date will be out there, that they have the item on the curb by 6 a.m., and then we'll pick it up on that date," explained Public Works Director for Service Operations, Steve Salwei. The pilot program will run from January through to July, with no pickups in April because of Spring Cleanup Week. Close Thanks for signing up! Watch for us in your inbox.
