BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) -- The annual KGET Toy Drive has come to an end for 2024, and Kern County children are finally getting their toys. Over the last couple weeks, thousands of gifts were dropped off in the lobby at our studios in downtown Bakersfield. On Thursday, kids and families at the Open Door Network got to choose from those gifts, giving those families some Christmas cheer as they navigate tough times. "We couldn't do this without Kern County and Bakersfield. It really is just a heart-warming event," said Lauren Skidmore, CEO of the Open Door Network. "It really brings a lot of passion to me as a mom to know that the kids are going to have a Christmas that feels normal." Through your generosity, the Open Door Network was able to brighten the holidays of more than 100 families and shared toys with other shelters that are outside the Open Door Network.
