BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) -- A former teacher at Kern Valley High School pleaded no contest Thursday to engaging in a sex act with and sending sexually explicit messages to an underage student, according to court records.
Christopher David Renaudo, 29, faces 16 months in prison and lifetime sex offender registration at next month's sentencing hearing, District Attorney's Office spokeswoman Daniela Gonzaga said.
Renaudo is being held on $185,000 bail. Three charges were dismissed under the plea agreement.
Renaudo was arrested in April after the victim reported he sexually assaulted her on three occasions after asking her to stay behind after class, according to court documents.
The incidents, the teen said, took place months earlier. She told sheriff's investigators she didn't report them sooner because Renaudo has a wife and child and she didn't want him to lose his family and job.
Renaudo at first denied wrongdoing. He later admitted to engaging in sex acts with the student after investigators confronted him with messages and a video sent from his account, documents said.
