Photo by Justin Casterline/Getty Images The Detroit Lions released their Week 16 Thursday injury report and while most of their resting veterans returned on Thursday, three offensive starters did not practice. The Detroit Lions (12-2) and Chicago Bears (4-10) both took a light approach to Wednesday’s practice, as the Lions rested veterans and the Bears held a walkthrough, but the Lions returned their veterans to the practice field on Thursday, while the Bears held a second walkthrough. Let’s take a look at Thursday’s injury report and get you up to date with what we know. Note that any changes from yesterday’s report will be bolded. No practice RB David Montgomery (knee) LG Graham Glasgow (knee) C Frank Ragnow (rest/back) Last time we talked to coach Dan Campbell, Montgomery was seeking another medical opinion on his knee and we have yet to hear the results. Campbell will meet with the media again on Friday when we could get another update on his status, but at a minimum, he appears headed to miss this week’s game. On Monday, Campbell said Glasgow was “a little sore, but he came out OK,” so there is still some optimism surrounding his availability for this weekend, even though he has missed two practices. If he can’t play, it’ll be interesting to see how he will be replaced at left guard. Christian Mahogany appears to have jumped Kayode Awosika on the depth chart, yet, we have only seen the rookie play right guard, while we have seen Awosika start at left guard in plenty of big games in the previous two seasons. Ragnow missed Wednesday’s practice for “rest” purposes but a “back” injury was added to the report for Thursday. It’s not clear if this was something that was bothering him previously and simply accelerated to a point where he needed a day off, or if this is a new injury altogether. We should get an update on his status on Friday from Campbell. Limited practice LB Jalen Reeves-Maybin — Injury clock started Thursday, day remaining: 20 S Brian Branch (calf) — returned to practice Reeves-Maybin joined Melifonwu in the injury evaluation window, which is quite a surprise considering the last we heard his progress was slow-moving. We’ll get an update from Campbell on Friday as to his progress, but it’s probably safe to limit expectations for a quick return based on previous conversations. Branch got in what essentially looks like a rest day on Wednesday so that he could nurse a calf injury that he has been playing through. A return to practice is a great sign for his availability this weekend. Full practice LB Trevor Nowaske (concussion) — returned to practice S Ifeatu Melifonwu (finger) — Injury clock days remaining: 19 WR Amon-Ra St. Brown (rest) LT Taylor Decker (rest) RG Kevin Zeitler (rest) EDGE Za’Darius Smith (rest) DT DJ Reader (rest) Nowaske continues to work his way through the NFL concussion protocol and a second day of practice is a great sign for his recovery. Beyond Ragnow, the remaining resting veterans returned to practice on Thursday. Bears' Thursday injury report After holding a walkthrough on Wednesday, the Bears doubled down and held a second walkthrough on Thursday, meaning all reported participation levels are estimates. Note: Starters are bolded. Did not practice on Thursday LG Teven Jenkins (calf) OL Ryan Bates (concussion) DT Gervon Dexter (knee) TE Marcedes Lewis (rest) — added to Thursday’s report Practiced in full RB Roschon Johnson (concussion) LT Braxton Jones (concussion) — estimated return, to practice on Thursday EDGE Darrell Taylor (shoulder)
