ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) — The Primetime 585 Spotlight Team of the week is the Keshequa girls basketball team. Keshequa has a 5-1 record to start the season with its only loss being a three-point defeat from reigning Class B champion Hornell. The Wildcats compete in Class C2, and three of their wins come against teams that play three or four classes above them. On top of that, all of their wins have been by at least 15 points. The team only has seven players, but that doesn't stop it from getting the job done against bigger schools. With a fundamentally sound group, coach Pete Piraino sits back and enjoys the game, something sophomore Braelyn Isaman said he only started doing later in his coaching career. Out of the group of seven, there are two sets of siblings: Ryley and Bree Benner, and Abigail and Alicia Wood. The sets of sisters might be a reason for the team's chemistry on the court. "Honestly, I feel like we have a twin telepathy and we read each other's minds," Ryley Benner said. Keshequa only has one senior in Ava Thayer, and Riley Nageldinger and Abigail Wood make up the juniors. Despite being a young group, the Wildcats have proven they can hang with any team in Section V so far this year. Congratulations to Coach Piraina and the Keshequa girls basketball team for earning the Spotlight Team of the week!
