CLOVIS, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) - Two people were arrested Wednesday night after concerned customers at a Clovis shopping center reported the suspects were allegedly trying to break into a car, the city's police department said.
Police say on Wednesday night just before 8:30 p.m., two separate concerned customers called 911 to report that two men were trying to break into a car at the retail parking lot at Clovis and Herndon avenues.
According to police, an undercover detective was already nearby as part of the department's increased holiday and retail patrols this season.
As patrol officers entered the parking lot, dispatchers utilized the city's camera network. The detective saw the suspects driving away and followed them until officers could pull them over, police say.
Police say the suspects have been identified as 36-year-old Michael Lomauhie and 39-year-old Patrick Lacy, both of Fresno.
They were detained without incident and while there was no victim of a vehicle burglary, officers say they arrested them for other charges.
Police say that officers checked the parking lot for any signs that a crime had occurred, however, no victim's vehicle was found.
According to police, Lomauhie was arrested in connection with a warrant and Lacy was arrested in connection with four warrants and on suspicion of possession of burglary tools and weapons.
They were booked into the Fresno County Jail and their car was towed.
