SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) -- Fire officials in the Black Hills are sending out a warning about high winds following 2 fires Thursday morning. What's being called the McGee fire is burning southwest of Rapid City. KELOLAND’s Dan Santella among 12 runners for 437 Project run It was reported just after midnight and is around 46 acres in size. Multiple agencies posted pictures of the blaze to social media. Rapid City Fire Department says state, local and federal resources are working to contain it. "Winds obviously were spreading it very quickly. We had a bunch of resources between Federal, State, and Local Municipal Departments, really got on this as quick as we could. And we kept this at a manageable size for the amount of wind we are having today," USFS Engine Captain Tanner Sprague said. This fire was called in around 12:15 Thursday morning and within about 30 minutes crews and fire responders were already here on the scene from a fire that started at 8 to 15 acres and quickly grew up to 46. "We caught it at 46 acres, that doesn't mean the fires are out. You know we have to mop up, patrol, monitor and make sure it doesn't cross over our control lines." Sprague said. The cause of the fire is unknown and still under investigation.
