Dec 19, 2024
MUNCIE, Ind. — An 18-year-old in Muncie was found guilty of fatal drug dealing on Thursday after a jury deliberated for about an hour.
According to court documents, Jaxon W. Engle is guilty of the following charges:
Aiding, inducing or causing dealing in a controlled substance resulting in death (Level 1 felony)
Dealing in a controlled substance resulting in death (Level 1 felony)
Conspiracy to commit dealing in a narcotic drug (Level 5 felony)
All of this stems from an incident in September of 2023. As stated in previous reports, Engle — then 17 — reportedly dealt a deadly dose of fentanyl to another 17-year-old named Kamron Lacy.
Per reports, Engle purchased a counterfeit M30 pill, laced with fentanyl, from 25-year-old Ricky Taylor. Taylor has since been sentenced to 41 years in prison for similar charges as Engle:
Aiding, inducing, or causing, dealing in a narcotic drug (Level 1 felony)
Dealing in a narcotic drug (Level 5 felony)
Conspiracy to commit dealing in a narcotic drug (Level 5 felony)
"This marks the 10th time a Delaware County jury has found a defendant guilty of Dealing Resulting in Death," said Delaware County Prosecuting Attorney Eric Hoffman. "Our community, through our jury system, is speaking loud and clear – if you deal drugs and one of your customers dies as [a] result you will be held accountable."
If Engle is convicted, he faces a prison sentence of up to 40 years. A mugshot has not been provided at this time.
