K105 FM gives back with a Christmas surprise

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) -- A contest that's more than a month in the making, finally made its big reveal for a family in need this holiday season.
K105 hosts Tim Burger and Kylie Havens hold the Holiday Home Invasion every year, with the hope of giving back to a family in need as the holiday season approaches. The invasion gives the family the chance to get not only gifts but Christmas decorations and food and money for bills.
"We ask people to nominate a family that's kind of in a rough spot with the possibility that they might not have a Christmas," Burger said.
The family chosen this year, the Dominguez family of northeast Fort Wayne, was nominated by many community members with the hope of guaranteeing Christmas for the family. The family was chosen not only because of its number of nominations but also what the family is going through.
The family's middle child was one of the victims of the mass shooting that happened at the Halloween party near the end of October. He was shot multiple times in both legs and with that, his mother had to step away from her job in order to transport him back and forth to the hospital and therapy.
Another child in the family also suffered from a pre-existing medical condition which made it harder for the family to even get to the grocery store.
Thursday the family returned home to gifts under the tree and crews lighting up their house.
"It's a blessing because I know there are people that need it more," Imaikalani Dominguez said. "But I know there are people who think otherwise."
Dominguez's son is expected to head back to school in January after making good progress in recovery.
