FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) Indiana Michigan Power (I&M) routinely trims trees located near power lines as a way to prevent outages in the event of severe weather. The most efficient way to do that in rural areas is with a helicopter. The electric utility completed aerial trimming in several Indiana counties earlier this month and that work is now moving into Allen County until the end of the year. Trimming will take place, weather permitting, Monday through Saturday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.near transmission power lines. There will be no trimming on Christmas Eve or Christmas. I&M is contracting with Rotor Blade, LLC to perform the work using a helicopter-based, tree-trimming saw. The saw is suspended beneath a helicopter by a vertical boom with multipleblades attached. Aerial trimming is faster and can reach off-road areas easier than traditionaltrimming
