Jets interview Senior Bowl director Jim Nagy for their GM position
Dec 19, 2024
The Jets have completed another interview for its general manager position.
Jim Nagy, the executive director of Reese’s Senior Bowl, interviewed with the Jets on Thursday afternoon.
He is the third known candidate to interview with the Jets since owner Woody Johnson fired former general manager Joe Douglas on Nov. 19. Coincidentally, Jets interim general manager Phil Savage held the Senior Bowl director title before Nagy.
Former Falcons general manager Thomas Dimitroff and former Titans general manager Jon Robinson also interviewed earlier this week for the position. Gang Green is also expected to interview current ESPN analyst Louis Reddick.
The Jets can interview candidates who are not under contract with other teams. Potential candidates who are working for a team can be interviewed after the regular season ends on Jan. 5.
Last month, Johnson hired The 33rd Team, an analytics, media, and consulting group founded by former Jets GM Mike Tannenbaum, to assist them in their general manager and coaching searches.
Before becoming the Senior Bowl’s executive director in 2018, Nagy worked as an NFL scout for 18 years with the Commanders, Patriots, Seahawks, and Chiefs. In his current role, Nagy specializes in finding the top collegiate talent and is responsible for bringing them to Mobile, Alabama, for the all-star game.
Whoever Johnson hires as the Jets’ general manager will help oversee their coaching search. On Oct. 8, after a 2-3 start, Johnson fired Robert Saleh and Douglas.
Gang Green registered a 30-64 mark during Douglas’ five-plus seasons as general manager. However, the Jets did not make the playoffs or finish with a winning record in any season during that time (2019-24). Douglas’ tenure will ultimately be remembered for drafting Zach Wilson with the No. 2 overall pick in 2021 and trading for Aaron Rodgers in 2023, neither of which helped the Jets reach the playoffs.
Jets defensive coordinator Jeff Ulbrich has served as the interim head coach following Saleh’s firing. In his nine games as interim coach, Ulbrich has a 2-7 record.
With three games remaining, the Jets are 4-10 and are eliminated from playoff contention for the 14th consecutive season.
