TYBEE ISLAND, Ga. (WSAV) – The city has appointed a new chief of the Tybee Island Fire Department.
Tybee Island City Manager Bret Bell said after an exhaustive search, Justin McMillian has been chosen as "the right chief to lead Tybee Fire."
“Chief McMillian was the top choice of our leadership team, and the top choice of our firefighters," Bell stated. "We look forward to the day he joins Team Tybee.”
McMillian is set to assume his role on Dec. 23.
In the past five years, the city has been through three fire chiefs and two assistant chiefs, a Tybee official previously told News 3.

Most recently, Jeremy Kendrick was terminated in April for allegedly violating three city ordinances, and Greg Socks and Jason Waterfield have been serving in the interim.
The changes come amid ongoing efforts to improve the fire department, which was volunteer-based just three years ago.
The city said McMillian's experience will be invaluable as they continue to enhance emergency response capabilities and community outreach.
“It is an honor to serve as the Fire Chief of Tybee Island,” stated McMillian. “This is a vibrant and close-knit community, and I am eager to work alongside the dedicated team of first responders here to continue providing exceptional service and ensuring the safety of our residents and visitors.”
