NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) - The City of Norfolk is undergoing a recount for the Superward 7 race for City Council on Thursday. Philip Hawkins, who trails Carlos Clanton in the race by only 92 votes, requested the recount. Recount requested in tight Norfolk Superward 7 council race "Every single vote matters, and it's essential that we ensure each vote is accurately counted and that the full legal process is honored," Hawkins said. "This race reflects the voice and will of the people of Superward 7, and I am committed to upholding that voice by pursuing a recount to guarantee fairness and accuracy." While the public is welcome to attend the recount, which is being held at the Norfolk Courthouse in Courtroom 6A, there will be a stanchion in place to separate the recount area from the public viewing area. Portsmouth City Council recount goes on for hours, Dodson defeats incumbent Barnes On Dec. 16, the Director of Elections and General Registrar of the City of Norfolk, Stephanie L. Iles, and her staff requested to pre-sort the ballots ahead of the recount, in the hopes of eliminating the need to scan over 25,000 ballots.
