I65 southbound closed due to deadly vehicle fire

INDIANAPOLIS — Interstate 65 is completely shut down for southbound commuters due to a deadly vehicle fire.
According to the Indiana Department of Transportation, the vehicle fire occurred near mile marker 102.9 on the southbound side of Interstate 65. This is on the city's south side near the Southport Road exit.

Indiana State Police confirm that one person is dead after a semi-truck burst into flames.

All lanes of southbound traffic are completely stopped due to a full closure of the roadway. INDOT maps show that northbound traffic is also being affected.
Drivers are asked to avoid the area as state police shut down I-65 south at I-465.
ISP Sgt. John Perrine said the southbound closure will be "very extended" and asked drivers for patience.
At this time, no additional details have been released.
