KOKOMO, Ind. — A Kokomo woman was arrested for child neglect after she repeatedly threatened to kill the victim, after she spat on them, and attempted to strangle them.
Brandi Crain, 37, was charged with the following:
Neglect of a Dependent, a Level 6 Felony
Domestic Battery on a Person Less than 14 years old, a Level 6 Felony
Officers were dispatched on Saturday at 10:43 p.m. to the 100 block of S. Union St. on a report of child abuse. Upon arrival, officers spoke with individuals who said that Crain had an alcohol and drug abuse problem. Reportedly, her behavior was erratic when she consumed illicit substances.
Investigators also learned that Crain was also on house arrest.
According to court documents, the victim said they were spat on multiple times, that Crain threatened to kill them three times, and that she attempted to strangle the victim twice. The victim was able to escape by locking themselves in the bathroom and texting a relative for help.
When the relative arrived, the victim allegedly ran outside without shoes, socks, or a jacket. Officers, however, did not notice any signs of battery.
The relative had full custody of the victim, but when Crain got out of jail, she regained full custody.
This is an active investigation. Information will be updated as it becomes available.
