The Pueblo Police Department (PPD) is reporting a fatal crash on Pueblo's southeast side near Northern Avenue.
Pueblo Police told FOX21 News that the crash occurred on Pueblo Boulevard and involved a single vehicle with four passengers. PPD said the car, which they described as an older SUV, crashed into the guardrail in the back of a home.
According to police, officers were dispatched to westbound Pueblo Blvd for the crash, and upon arrival, they located an SUV in the backyard of a home on Taylor Lane. The initial investigation indicates the car was going westbound on Pueblo Blvd, and as the road bends toward the north, left the roadway at a high rate of speed striking a guardrail and careening through multiple backyards prior to coming to a rest.
Two people, including the driver, were declared dead on the scene. Two other passengers were taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Pueblo Boulevard is closed from O'Neal Avenue to Vinewood Lane in both directions, and crews will be on the scene for several hours. PPD told FOX21 News that speed and alcohol were likely factors in the crash.
An investigation is ongoing, and drivers are asked to avoid the area.
