CLEVELAND (WJW) – The first official trailer for James Gunn's "Superman" film has been released.
The trailer — which debuted one day after another, much shorter teaser — was posted to the film's social media pages and the DC Comics YouTube page at 9 a.m. Thursday.
The best Christmas movies for every mood
The film, slated for release on July 11, 2025, stars actor David Corenswet as Clark Kent/Superman opposite Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, with Nicholas Hoult playing frequent Superman foe Lex Luthor. The trailer takes fans of Superman through a few familiar beats — working at the Daily Planet, hanging out at the family farm in Kansas — before introducing a few characters rarely, if ever, depicted in the previous live-action films, including Krypto, Mister Terrific, Guy Gardner's Green Lantern and Hawkgirl.
The trailer had been viewed more than 3 million times within just hours of being posted to the DC YouTube page. Thousands of viewers also left comments under the trailer on X, expressing excitement or, in many cases, picking it apart.
"I’ll give it a shot as a DC fan," one viewer wrote. "I don’t think anything can ever top 'Man of Steel' and [Henry Cavill] as Super Man, but I’ll give Gunn a chance here and pass judgement after I watch the full movie."
Movie based on ‘Oregon Trail’ computer game in early development at Apple
In addition to Corenswet, Brosnahan and Hoult, "Superman" stars Edi Gathegi, Anthony Carrigan, Nathan Fillion and Isabela Merced.
