(KRON) -- A man was arrested at a Vallejo hotel on Wednesday after he fired a gun inside the building, the Vallejo Police Department said. Police had to use "chemical agents" to get the suspect out after he barricaded himself inside his hotel room. According to Solano County Jail records, the shooting happened at 2070 Solano Ave., which is the address of the Super 8 by Wyndham hotel. VPD officers responded at about 8:28 p.m. Hotel staffers and other witnesses said 36-year-old Jeffrey Joseph Caldwell brandished a gun and began firing unprovoked. 2 kids, 2 adults found dead in Milpitas apartment Officers evacuated all employees and guests from the hotel as they attempted to arrest Caldwell, who did not surrender, VPD said. VPD brought in personnel from its SWAT and negotiation teams. California Highway Patrol shut down two on-ramps of Interstate 80 and Solano Avenue for public safety. After multiple failed attempts to communicate with Caldwell, the SWAT team released chemicals, and he was arrested at about 12:51 a.m. Police found an unregistered gun in the room. Caldwell is a convicted felon who had a no-bail arrest warrant issued on Tuesday for violating the conditions of his parole. He was arrested for multiple felonies, including assault with a deadly weapon, parole violation, and being a felon in possession of a firearm.
