PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — An investigation is underway after a fire broke out at a multi-family home Wednesday night in Providence.
Battalion Chief Bradley Wagoner said crews arrived at the scene on Atwells Avenue around 9:30 p.m. and the three families were still inside.
"[The damage is] fairly extensive," Wagoner said. "The first floor was pretty heavily damaged. There was a lot of smoke and water damage on the second and third floors."
One resident and one firefighter were taken to the hospital for minor injuries. Animal Control was also at the scene taking care of "a couple of dogs" who were found dead.
Wagoner said the home is not a total loss but it's going to need some "extensive repairs." The residents are being assisted by the Red Cross.
It's unclear what caused the fire at this time.
