ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) — A Palmyra man was charged with attempted rape after police said he broke into a Canandaigua home, refused to let the victim leave and tried to force the victim to have sex with him.
Brian E. VanCaeseele, 55, was charged with first-degree burglary, attempted rape, unlawful imprisonment and criminal contempt. According to the Canandaigua Police Department, on Dec. 17 he entered the Canandaigua home where a "physical disturbance took place," during which he allegedly refused to let the victim leave home for about eight hours - moving into the next day.

Police announced that during the eight-hour time period, he tried to force the victim to have sex with him. An order of protection was in effect for the victim against VanCaeseele, police said. He was taken to jail for arraignment.
