ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) — A Palmyra man was charged with attempted rape after police said he broke into a Canandaigua home, refused to let the victim leave and tried to force the victim to have sex with him. Brian E. VanCaeseele, 55, was charged with first-degree burglary, attempted rape, unlawful imprisonment and criminal contempt. According to the Canandaigua Police Department, on Dec. 17 he entered the Canandaigua home where a "physical disturbance took place," during which he allegedly refused to let the victim leave home for about eight hours - moving into the next day. An order of protection was in effect for the victim against VanCaeseele, police said. He was taken to jail for arraignment.
