'Proud and honored': Scholarship fund honors Clovis High student

CLOVIS, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) - The parents of a Clovis High School Marching Band student who recently passed away from leukemia are now raising funds for a scholarship that aims to help music lovers just like their son.
According to the student's parents, Dara and Matthew Johnson, their son Cody Robert Wright Johnson recently passed away on Dec. 13 after battling acute lymphoblastic leukemia at the age of 16.
Cody was a junior at Clovis High School and his parents say he loved music. He was part of the Clovis High School Marching Band, Winter Percussion and Concert Band where he would play many percussion instruments; his favorites were the vibraphone and marimba.
Cody's love for music inspired his parents to start a GoFundMe page to raise funds for a college scholarship in his honor. The Johnson family says they would like to choose a well-deserving member from each of the Clovis High School and Hoover High School marching bands on an annual basis to receive the scholarship.
"Cody would have been proud and honored to know that his short life of just 16 years inspired a scholarship fund that would assist young music lovers, like himself, with some of the financial burdens of attending college," reads the GoFundMe page.
Both parents encourage the public to donate to the Cody Johnson Strong Marching Band Scholarship Fund instead of sending flowers or meals to the family. To do so, click here.
