A ridge of high pressure will move over New Mexico tomorrow and last through Saturday, helping to keep the dry air over the state in place. The ridge will also allow an increase in temperatures through the weekend. Saturday and Sunday will be the warmest days due to downsloping winds. Over the weekend, locally breezy conditions will persist. This will set up the mountains to receive downsloping winds. These winds will increase the temperatures near the mountains by several degrees. Early next week a low pressure system will begin to form over the Pacific Coast. This low pressure should make its way to New Mexico just in time for Christmas. However, there is still uncertainty surrounding the strength and timing of the storm. The European Model has is predicting a much weaker storm than the American Model. The strength of the storm will help to determine the extent of expected snowfall. Right now, light snow is forecasted in the Northern Mountains on Christmas Day. However, this is subject to change as we are still a week away.
