LAWRENCE, Mass. (WPRI) — More housing is coming to Southeastern Massachusetts. On Tuesday, Governor Maura Healey announced $27 million in funding for the state's Housing Development Incentive Program (HDIP), which gives developers tax incentives to build and renovate properties across the state. According to Healey, HDIP awards will support the creation of 1,256 new housing units in the state, which will lead to lower housing costs. 12 Porter St. in Taunton is receiving a $2 million HDIP award that will allow for the creation of 24 new units. Two properties in New Bedford are also receiving funding: $2.5 million will go toward transforming the former Keystone building on Union St. into 45 housing units, while Elmwater Landing is also getting $2.5 million to create 18 new units.
