FRANKLINTON, La. (WGNO) — A Franklinton woman is dead following a housefire that happened in the area on Tuesday afternoon, Dec. 10.
According to the Louisiana Office of State Fire Marshal, the Franklinton Fire Department was called to a house in the 1500 block of Madison Street around 2 p.m., and on arrival, found a 90-year-old man outside who had reportedly tried unsuccessfully to save his adult daughter from the fire.

The cause of the fire, while unknown definitively, is believed by officials to have possibly started from a space heater plugged into a power strip and placed too closely to flammable objects.
Deputies confirmed that while the home did have functioning smoke alarms, the victim's mobility may have contributed to her inability to escape.
