MEMPHIS, Tenn. -- Police say a tracker and some alert citizens helped them find a bank robber who targeted the same Highland Street bank just weeks apart. Sherman Weakley, 21, was booked in the Shelby County Jail on two counts of aggravated robbery. Sherman Weakley (SCSO) Police said on Oct. 2, Weakley walked into the First South Financial Bank in the Normal Station area wearing a black hoodie, tan pants and a red face mask. They said he pointed a gun at a teller and took $1,630 from her drawer. Investigators said on Nov. 1, Weakley returned to the bank wearing the same clothing, held up another teller, and left with $15,283. However, this time, a GPS device was hidden in the money. 600 block of S. Highland Police say the robber dumped some of the money and the tracker in the backyard of a house on S Prescott Circle The money was traced to Prescott Circle, two blocks south of the bank. Officers discovered the tracker and a large sum of money discarded in someone's backyard. A neighbor said he saw a man fitting the bank robber's description jump the fence. A motorist also flagged down police and said a man in a red mask tried to open his car door and asked him to give him a ride. The driver, who owns a cell phone store nearby, said he recognized the suspect as one of his customers. 3 arrested in Germantown jewelry store robbery Detectives said the driver and the bank tellers were able to pick Weakley out of a photo lineup. Weakley is being held on a $125,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court on Friday.
