70's on Christmas Day? Unlikely but it's happened before
Dec 18, 2024
(SOUTHERN COLORADO) — Christmas is just about a week away now and you may start to wonder about the weather we typically get around this time of year. Average temperatures are usually in the middle 40s with snowfall being relatively uncommon. That doesn't mean that happens every year though.
Back in 1971, Colorado Springs had a high of 67 degrees on Christmas Day, which was roughly 20 degrees above normal. In 1983 the city had a low of 15 degrees below zero - that's quite the range. The most snow that has been on the ground during Christmas Day was seven inches back in 1982. Climatologically speaking, there's roughly a five percent chance of the area getting an inch of snow or more.
For Pueblo, the area had a record high of 72 degrees back in 1971. The record low for the region was negative ten degrees in 1983. As far as snow goes, the area had a record 5.1 inches fall back in 1987. The record for snow depth was 8 inches in 2011.
The FOX21 Storm Team is tracking just the slightest chance for a few snowflakes on Christmas Day this year so be sure to check back in for the latest updates.
