Body found in sugarcane field in West Baton Rouge Parish, deputies investigate

BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — The West Baton Rouge Sheriff's Office is investigating after a body was found in a sugarcane field on Wednesday, Dec. 18.
According to the sheriff's office, a local cane farmer reported a fire burning in a field near Sid Richardson Road in Addis. Deputies learned a body was located in the field. WBRSO responded to the scene around 4 p.m.
The body was believed to be burned from the fire in the field. The sheriff's office said sugar cane farmers usually burn the fields but in this incident, they did not burn the field.
Detectives are suspecting foul play.
WBRSO and the coroner's office are on the scene. This is a developing story. Further details about the victim's identity or the investigation were not immediately available.
