The NYPD and Mayor Adams on Wednesday hailed the opening of a nearly $105 million 116th precinct station house in southeast Queens — the first new precinct in over 10 years. The precinct house, located at 244-04 North Conduit Ave. in Rosedale, will cover parts of Rosedale, Springfield Gardens, Brookville and Laurelton that were previously covered by the 105th and 113th precincts. “That is why we have dedicated ourselves to making sure that every New Yorker is safe — and feels safe too,” Adams said at the opening event. “The people of Rosedale, Springfield Gardens, Brookville, and Laurelton are getting the station house they need and deserve, and this new station will deepen the bonds between the NYPD and the community. (Michael Appleton/Mayoral Photography Office) The 45,000 square-foot command post comes after the city set a $70 million budget to the precinct in 2018 to speed up response times and enhance the relationship between the community and police. Construction started in August 2021. Residents advocated for the new precinct and for the 105th precinct to be split up, Adams said. The commanding officer of the precinct is NYPD Captain Jean Beauvoir, who previously headed the 105th precinct. “Both our officers and the people we serve eagerly anticipate the tangible benefits of having an additional NYPD command in operation, including smaller coverage areas for neighboring precincts, quicker response times to calls for service, and increased opportunities to foster trust and strengthen relationships between the police and the community,” NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch said at the opening. “The residents and workers in this area of Queens now have access to the station house they require and the level of service they deserve.” The last time a new station house was built was in 2013, for the 121st precinct in Staten Island.
