WASHINGTON (DC News Now) -- You can help residents in D.C. this winter by joining the DC Volunteer Snow Team. D.C. residents who need help clearing their sidewalks and walkways this winter can reach out to the volunteer snow team for help. District law requires property owners to clear ice and snow from their sidewalks, but senior residents or individuals with access and functional needs may have difficulty doing so themselves. D.C. officials said that these residents can sign up by calling 202-727-7925 or emailing [email protected]. Each request needs the resident's name, contact number, address and ward. Northern Virginia pediatrician shares medicine cabinet essentials to buy with FSA money Whenever there are four or more inches of snow, D.C. will deploy its volunteer snow team. Within 24 and 36 hours, volunteers will clear a pathway from the door to the sidewalk, the immediate sidewalk that surrounds the property and the entryway to the street. Volunteers will not be deployed if there is ice. They also will not enter homes; solicit or accept money, tips or gifts; or clear snow off of cars, driveways, alleyways, etc. Volunteers can register online by ward.
