PORT WENTWORTH, Ga. (WSAV) - A man whose job it once was to keep people out of jail is now behind bars himself.
Frederic Green is being accused of a murder that happened in Port Wentworth in late November. News 3 learned that Green is also facing charges in Missouri. He was arrested in Lake Saint Louis after a high-speed chase with police there on Dec. 1.
"Lake Saint Louis Police received a license plate reader notification that alerted dispatch of an out of state murder suspect who had entered the city limits. Police officers located the vehicle in the area of North Henke Road and attempted to stop it. The vehicle fled and refused to stop, driving erratically in excess of 120 mph. The vehicle struck a curb which damaged a tire causing it to slow and eventually come to a stop," a press release from LSLPD said.
The St. Charles County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office has issued a warrant for aggravated fleeing/Valentine’s Law with a bond set at $100,000.
In 2016, Green sat down to talk with News 3 about his passion for stopping gun violence in Savannah and encouraging crime suspects to pursue a different and better future.
"I have no willpower to say no. I can't turn back that way. You know, I have too many people counting on me now," Green said in 2016.
He served several years in jail, but he told WSAV he was working on turning a new leaf. He started his own non-profit, Filling the Gaps Outreach.
WSAV confirmed with the city of Savannah that Green did serve in some capacity with the Advocates for Restorative Communities Task Force and End Gun Violence: Step Forward Program.
Mayor Van Johnson wrote in a statement to News 3, "In 2020, I appointed Frederic Green to the inaugural Advocates for Restorative Communities (ARCS) Task Force, acknowledging his experience advocating for justice-involved citizens. Mr. Green resigned from the task force in 2022 and has not been involved or affiliated with the ARCS Task Force or the End Gun Violence: Step Forward program since that time. As I have consistently stated, accountability is paramount, and everyone must be held responsible for their actions under the law. Our dedication to reducing gun violence and fostering safer communities in Savannah remains steadfast and unwavering."
Green is being held at the Saint Charles County Department of Corrections. More charges could be announced once he is back in Georgia.
