Valencia County Sheriff's Office investigating double homicide

VALENCIA COUNTY, N.M. (KRQE) – The Valencia County Sheriff's Office is investigating a double homicide on Wednesday.
Deputies first responded to a call around 12:13 p.m. about a person who had been shot in the chest at the intersection of S. El Cerro Loop and Inspiration Drive. When deputies arrived, they found a 61-year-old man from Los Lunas had been shot. He was taken to the hospital in Albuquerque and died.

Before he died, he told deputies about another person who had been shot at a home on the 300 block of E. El Cerro Loop. At the home, deputies and officers with the Los Lunas Police Department found a 64-year-old man dead in the home with a gunshot wound to the head.
Law enforcement found a female hiding in the bathroom and took her into custody for being a person of interest in the investigation. The female was taken to the Valencia County Sheriff’s Office for questioning and further processing. At this time, the Valencia County Sheriff’s Office is not seeking any outstanding persons of interest related to this incident.
Detectives with the Valencia County Sheriff’s Office, along with the New Mexico State Police Crime Scene Processing Unit, and the Los Lunas Police Department Criminal Investigations Division are investigating.
Portions of El Cerro Loop\ along with Sandhill Road will be closed throughout the night as we officials process the scene. Residents are asked to seek alternate routes in the area.
