SMITHFIELD, R.I. (WPRI) — A 2023 North Attleboro High School graduate died Monday evening after a two-car crash, according to the school's principal.
Austin Dean, 20, was driving near the area of 777 Putnam Pike in Smithfield when his car collided with another vehicle around 5:30 p.m.
Dean was taken to the hospital, where he later died from his injuries. The other driver and a juvenile passenger were also taken to the hospital, though police said the extent of their injuries is unknown at this time.

North Attleboro High School Principal Peter Haviland sent a letter to students and families announcing Dean’s passing, describing him as a valued part of the community.
"He was a well-liked classmate, student, wrestling captain, and football player and his loss is deeply felt by all who knew him," the letter read.
The school is offering counselors and support staff to assist students and families in processing grief or emotions.
"During this difficult time, it is important for us to come together to support one another," the letter continued. "We recognize that this news may be upsetting and may impact many of our students and families in different ways."
Families were also encouraged to utilize additional resources through Riverside Community Care for guidance on navigating the difficult news.
"Let us honor Austin’s memory by showing kindness and compassion to one another in the days ahead. If you notice someone who may be struggling, please offer them your support, and know that it is okay to lean on others when you need help," the letter added.
Police are still investigating the cause of the crash.
