Lexington was settled on what was later named McConnell Springs and named for the site of the first battle of the Revolutionary War. The city turns the big 250 next year, and preparations for a year-long observance have been underway for months. Monday afternoon, Mayor Linda Gorton held a news conference in city hall to discuss some of the events and themes for the year. “January is devoted to wellness. February to history. March is education. April to music and the written word.” Lex Ambassador Stephanie Arnold previewed January’s “wellness” theme and some of the planned events. “Saturday January 4, there are free activities at the Whitaker Family YMCA and the High Street YMCA here in downtown Lexington. Sunday, January 5, we are hosting free activities at our Beaumont location and the North Lexington Family YMCA.” Arnold said there’ll be a variety of free, family-friendly events open to the community, but registration is required.
