DAVIE COUNTY, N.C. (WGHP) -- The Town of Mocksville will soon be home to a new furniture manufacturing facility which is expected to create 250 jobs. The Lithuanian Company, SBA Home, chose Davie County to establish its first North American furniture production facility. Leaders with Davie County Economic Development Commission and Davidson-Davie Community College said it’s another sign of the return of manufacturing to the Triad. They expect it to help keep more people in the local workforce. “Always excited when we're seeing a rebirth of not only our furniture but our manufacturing facilities across the Piedmont Triad and in the state of North Carolina,” Davidson-Davie Community College Vice President of Workforce and Community Engagement Dr. Johnathan Brown said. SBA Home’s new furniture manufacturing facility in Mocksville will be located at 187 Gildan Dr. It will be housed in a 500,000-square-foot facility. Davie County Economic Development Commission President Terry Bralley says they’ve worked on this project for nearly a year. “This project is really driven by our spec building program ... We partner with private investors ... We have a virtually complete building that is speed to market in today's world. Companies can come in, get a spec building up there and be in operation in a sooner time,” Bralley said. The Lithuanian manufacturer’s primary furniture buyer is Ikea. Its investment is expected to have a big impact on economic development in the county. “Around $50 million is what we have gauged our incentives on, which is great. Helps us grow our tax base and helps offset the burden to the local residents when it comes to taxes and helps our schools, helps our community college and helps our programs that we can offer to our young people here,” Bralley said. Davidson-Davie Community College is looking to help fill the workforce. “It's always interesting when we first introduce ourselves to these companies. We're trying to learn more about them and what their needs are so we can kind of match and build what they're looking,” Brown said. Brown said many manufacturing facilities are now heavily automated and rely on machines. “We're looking to upskill our students to give them the ability that when they walk in that facility, they're able to fix things, think critically and solve problems. Because once a machine goes down, we've got to get it back up and running,” Brown said. “We also work on the program inside with our places, and they're able to program those machines.” Brown said 90% of their manufacturing classes are hands-on. He said the college is looking ahead to the recruiting process and is ready to match up with what SBA Home needs for its workforce. “I'm hoping we can supply all 250 employees on this first start-up. But those are conversations that we will have with the company. We look forward to that and we welcome that challenge," Brown said. SBA Home’s furniture manufacturing facility in Mocksville is expected to be operational by Oct. 2025.
