MADISON, Wis. (WFRV) - Timothy M. O'Shea, the U.S. Attorney for the Western District of Wisconsin, announced on Tuesday that a 31-year-old Wisconsin man was sentenced to two years in prison for owning destructive devices.
James Morgan of Jefferson pled guilty to the charge on April 16, 2024. The charge stemmed from information that the FBI received which indicated that Morgan had made and owned destructive devices.

A federal search warrant was executed by local and federal officials at his travel trailer in Janesville. Six homemade explosives were found inside a locked safe in the trailer, and while they were rendered safe, they were sent for testing.
The FBI lab determined that they contained explosive powder and were considered "destructive devices" under federal law. Morgan admitted during an interview that he made the devices with his father, referring to them as grenades, while acknowledging that he knew they were illegal.
"We take these cases very seriously and will do everything necessary to ensure that individuals who make and possess destructive devices will be prosecuted in federal court," O'Shea said.
