Former Fond du Lac restaurant owner indicted for arson, fraud scheme

FOND DU LAC, Wis. (WFRV) - A former restaurant owner in Fond du Lac has been indicted for allegedly setting fire to her business in a scheme to defraud an insurance company.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Wisconsin announced on Tuesday that a federal grand jury returned a four-count indictment against 43-year-old Arletta Allen.

Allen faces charges of arson of a commercial building, wire fraud, attempted wire fraud, arson in connection with a federal felony, and making false statements to law enforcement.
The indictment alleges that on October 10, 2021, Allen intentionally set fire to "A Family Affair Soulfood Kitchen," a restaurant located on South Main Street in Fond du Lac.

Authorities claim Allen attempted to defraud Germantown Mutual Insurance Company by submitting a sworn proof of loss claim for damages caused by the fire while falsely denying her involvement. The indictment further alleges that Allen made false statements to law enforcement multiple times regarding her actions and whereabouts before the fire.
If convicted, Allen faces the following penalties:
Count One: Mandatory minimum of 5 years’ and up to 20 years’ imprisonment
Count Two: Up to 20 years’ imprisonment
Count Three: Mandatory minimum of 10 years’ imprisonment, to run consecutively to any other sentence
Count Four: Up to 5 years’ imprisonment
The case remains under investigation.
