COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO)– The South Carolina Department of Education has created an initiative to create a phone-free school environment beginning in 2025, according to officials.
Officials said Free to Focus SC is the departments way to have a positive learning experience free from electronic distractions around schools in the state.
The policy aims to provide an environment that enhances focus and engagement while allowing students to develop the college and career-ready skills outlined in the Profile of the South Carolina Graduate.
On September 3, 2024, the State Board of Education officially adopted a model policy prohibiting the use of personal electronic devices during the school day.
