(SOUTHERN COLORADO) — On Wednesday, Dec. 18, Governor Jared Polis visited Colorado Springs to tour a new affordable housing complex, and Pueblo for a demonstration at the Pueblo Police Department's (PPD) Real Time Crime Center (RTCC). In Colorado Springs, Polis visited The Village at Solid Rock, a 77-unit Affordable housing complex at 2510 Arlington Drive, near South Circle Drive and Fountain Boulevard. “Expanding housing opportunities Coloradans can afford is critical to lowering costs and helping families thrive. Today, in Colorado Springs I toured 77 units of new housing that offer options closer to job centers so families have more time to explore everything that makes Colorado Springs a great place to live,” said Governor Polis. Governor Polis has signed several bills aimed at reducing housing costs in Colorado, including legislation to create more housing near transit lines, give Coloradans the freedom to build Accessory Dwelling Units (ADUs) on their property, and eliminate unnecessary parking mandates that raise housing costs, and get rid of discriminatory occupancy limits. Governor Polis then joined Mayor Heather Graham at the RTCC in Pueblo, a facility that improves police response time by connecting to cameras owned by businesses or homeowners. The Real-Time Crime Center, is an innovative facility that is helping to decrease crime rates across Southern Colorado, and keep our communities safer,” said Governor Polis. The RTCC launched in 2024 and amplifies the work of officers on the ground by providing additional information to help them locate suspects and people in need of emergency assistance, as well as evidence to aid in investigations. The center also includes technology like ShotSpotter, officer-worn body footage, drone footage, license plate readers, and more. Mayor Graham and Chief of Police Chris Noeller traveled to Montrose earlier in the year to request $1,000,000 from the Department of Local Affairs to expand services and technology at the RTCC. “Today was an opportunity to showcase the capabilities of the RTCC and explain to Governor Polis how the future investment of the DOLA grant will expand ShotSpotter technology,” said Mayor of Pueblo Heather Graham. “We are grateful for DOLA’s continued investment in our community. We are also proud of the success we have already experienced while utilizing this technology to solve crime and improve police response for a safer Pueblo.”
