BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) -- An Amherst man was sentenced Tuesday to a determinate sentence of 10 years in state prison and five years of post-release supervision for killing his mother in December 2022, the Erie County District Attorney's Office announced.
Around 11:33 a.m. on Dec. 26, police responded to a domestic disturbance call on Thistle Lea and found the victim, 58-year-old Jagruti Samant, dead at the scene.
Om Samant, 36, killed his mother by beating and stabbing her inside of their shared home, officials said.
He pled guilty in October 2024 to one count of first-degree manslaughter.
Samant's sentencing is the minimum sentence authorized by the plea agreement and was advocated for by the victim's family, the attorney's office said.
