'It's an impossible situation for us': OP farm concerned its new facility still doesn't have access to water

ORCHARD PARK N.Y. (WIVB) - A local farm's dream of expanding production is drying up after farmers say their new barn still does not have access to running water.
The Providence Farm Collective built a brand new barn on their property in Orchard Park.
Weiss says they're waiting on the town of Orchard Park but the town tells News 4 they need the non-profit to sign a document drafted by the town's attorney first.
"It's an impossible situation for us," said Kristin Heltman-Weiss, the executive director of Providence Farm Collective.
Weiss says signing that document would require PFC to build a new water district and hook their water line to that. Weiss says that could be expensive.
"This is not a really good path to go down for anybody," she said.
Construction on the project is almost complete and would help the non-profit expand its programs with local farmers.
"The past year our farmers grew over 100,000 pounds of fresh food. That fed 11,000 plus people across Western New York," Weiss said.
The barn provides farmers a more efficient way to wash their produce.
"We have a new wash and pack station so to be able to train people on how to use that before the season starts is really important and we're not going to be able to do that because we're not even going to be allowed to have anybody in this building," Weiss said.
The non-profit needs a certificate of occupancy to use the new facility, but they can't get that without having running water.
"We do not have running water and we're supposed to have running water in the facility," said Hamadi Ali, the marketing manager at Providence Farm Collective and a farmer.
"With how things are going with the town and some farmers hearing about this, they're very devastated or discouraged," he added.
Weiss says they already have the OK from the Erie County Water Authority. She's hoping the issue is resolved before the growing season starts in March.
