Man arrested in Baton Rouge carjacking that left one dead

BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — A 19-year-old suspect was arrested after a deadly carjacking in 2022.
According to the Baton Rouge Police Department, Jayden Caston was charged with first-degree murder, carjacking and illegal use of a weapon in connection to the shooting death of Victor Vargas, 30. Police said he was already in police custody on an unrelated carjacking.
In July 2022, BRPD detectives were called to the 12000 block of Lorna Avenue. Detectives learned Vargas was shot during the theft of his vehicle and died at the scene.
Vargas' vehicle was found unoccupied in the 1200 block of La Margie Avenue.
