METAIRIE, La. (BRPROUD) - The Saints are getting some help at the running back position with running back Alvin Kamara dealing with a groin/abductor injury. The New Orleans Saints signed Baton Rouge native Clyde Edwards-Helaire to the practice squad, the team announced Wednesday.
Edwards-Helaire was waived by the Kansas City Chiefs on Monday. The former LSU Tiger hasn't appeared in a game this season. Along with signing Edwards-Helaire, the Saints terminated the practice squad contract of DT Kendal Vickers.
Edwards-Helaire was selected 32nd overall in the 2020 NFL Draft by the Chiefs. He spent his entire NFL career in Kansas City, appearing in 48 games over five seasons and winning two Super Bowls.
Edwards-Helaire has rushed for 1,845 yards and 12 touchdowns throughout his five-year career. He's also caught 89 passes for 765 yards and 7 touchdowns.
The former Catholic High Bear played three seasons at LSU from 2017-2019, winning a national title. During his time as a Tiger, Edwards-Helaire rushed for 2,103 yards, including a 1,414 rushing yard season in 2019 and 23 touchdowns.
