BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) -- Two men charged with murder and robbery in connection with a deadly shooting in Lamont are scheduled for trial in February. A trial date of Feb. 3 was set during a hearing this week for Gabriel Prieto, 23, and Romieo Narvaez, 24, according to court records. Both men face life terms in prison if convicted. The two are charged in the July 29 shooting death of Emanuel Gonzalez, 21, at the intersection of Georgetown Avenue and Field Street. Gonzalez was the driver of a vehicle that crashed into a flatbed trailer. He was found with a gunshot wound to the head and was pronounced dead at the scene. Over 500,000 winter tires recalled due to poor traction in snow Investigators extracted data from Gonzalez’s cellphone and retrieved surveillance footage from multiple cameras which helped identify Narvaez and Prieto as suspects, according to court filings. A Snapchat account linked to one of the suspects had contacted Gonzalez’s account and asked about meeting to buy marijuana. Narvaez and Prieto were found together and arrested on Sept. 5. Narvaez admitted being present when the shooting occurred and said Prieto was the shooter, according to the filings. He told investigators he used his phone to arrange the meeting.
