AUSTIN (KXAN) — A Texas Department of Criminal Justice (TDCJ) correctional officer was arrested after she was accused of performing a sexual act with an inmate at the Travis County State Jail over the weekend, according to court documents.
Court records identified the correctional officer as Brittany Cummings. She was charged with violation of civil rights of person in custody. She was booked into jail on Dec. 15 on a $10,000 bond and was released Dec. 17, according to online jail records.
An attorney was not listed for Cummings. We will update this if that changes. KXAN has reached out to TDCJ for a statement on the incident. This story will be updated if one is received.
Around 5:30 a.m., Dec. 15, another correctional officer saw Cummings exiting a staff restroom at the state jail. When that correctional officer went to inspect inside the restroom, they saw an inmate, court records said. That inmate is currently serving a two-year sentence for a felon in possession of a weapon, as well as unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon.
The correctional officer then reported the incident. During an interview, Cummings admitted to performing the sexual act, according to court records.
