Sick of holiday movies? Watch these "antiChristmas" films instead
Dec 18, 2024
CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) - While many enjoy the holiday season and the festive movies that often accompany it, others find them overplayed and all too predictable.
HostingAdvice.com surveyed 3,000 Massachusetts residents looking for something different this season and asked them what their favorite "anti-Christmas" films were. These movies take place during Christmastime, but don't emulate the holiday cheer that you see in traditional films like "Elf" or "Frosty the Snowman".

The top-voted anti-Christmas movie was "Gremlins" (1984). In the film, the protagonist Billy receives an early Christmas gift from his father, the Mogwai, with a specific set of rules of how to take care of it. When Billy doesn't follow the instructions on how to take care of his new little friend, disaster unfolds, making it a memorable watch for the holiday season.
Coming in second is "Krampus" (2015). Krampus is a creature from ancient folklore who punishes naughty children during Christmas, which is featured in the film when he unleashes his rage on a family who does not embody the Christmas spirit. "The Silence of the Lambs" (1991) was a popular pick in third, deviating far from the holiday theme with many elements of horror and gore.
HostingAdvice found that Massachusetts movie watchers are simply tired of seeing the same classic holiday films played over and over again every year, lacking variety in plot and theme. If you find yourself relating, perhaps it's time to try watching some anti-Christmas movies this year instead.
