Union Mission brings free meals, support services to those in need

SAVANNAH, Ga. (WSAV) – The holidays are about giving, and one local organization is making sure no one is left behind.
The Union Mission is serving up holiday meals on Wednesday to those in need and providing an extra hand to support the community.
Up to 500 free holiday meals will be served to local families and homeless people in need.
Thanks to Gulfstream and Sodexo, volunteers will be serving hot to-go meals.
The event also offers free clothing, mental health support, and household items through the organization's clothing closet.
With over 30 volunteers, the kitchen will prepare extra meals – just in case. The meal will include turkey, stuffing, potatoes and brownies for dessert.
The Union Mission's president says this event is very successful and means a lot to the homeless community here in Savannah.
"We work very hard to provide those services," said Michael Traynor. "Again, it's about making connections because we're about getting people to housing. It's not just about, you know, just providing those basic services and then being done with it. It's about a program of getting people with a roof over their head."
The event will take place between 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at 125 Fahm Street, which is near the CAT Bus Terminal downtown. It is open to anyone who needs a boost this holiday season; plenty of services will be provided on top of a nice hot meal.
