McKee announces new draft RFP for Washington Bridge

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — Gov. Dan McKee and R.I. Department of Transportation (RIDOT) Director Peter Alviti held a news conference Wednesday to announce the new draft Request for Proposal (RFP) for the Washington Bridge rebuild.

Last week, McKee announced the two finalists selected to compete for the contract to build the new westbound bridge — Walsh Construction of Chicago and American Bridge Co. of Pennsylvania with MLJ Contracting Corp. of New York.

The two will review and comment on the RFP, with the final version to be issued in January. They will then make their proposals in response to the final RFP.
A winner will be chosen on June 6, nearly a year after the McKee administration had initially said it expected to have bids in place.
The winning contractor would begin design and other pre-fabrication work in July.
