JOHNSTON, R.I. (WPRI) — A 29-year-old man is facing charges after leading police on a pursuit in Johnston Tuesday night. An officer tried to pull over a car in the area of Greenville Avenue and the I-295 overpass around 8:45 p.m. due to its headlights and tail lights being off, but the car drove off. The car got onto the highway and police say they followed it until Exit 7, when the car drove straight through Scituate Avenue and crashed into a guardrail. Police say the driver, identified as George Torres, of Providence, was transported to the hospital but was not seriously injured. The officer involved in the chase struck a traffic sign at the end of the ramp of Exit 7 but was not injured. Torres is expected to be arraigned in court Wednesday on charges of eluding and reckless driving, and driving with a suspended license. Close Thanks for signing up! Watch for us in your inbox.
