EAST PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — With the deadline to get a REAL ID quickly approaching, one 12 News viewer was concerned it might include a tracking device. RI Division of Motor Vehicles (DMV) spokesperson Paul Grimaldi said there's no tracking device in state driver's licenses or state IDs. Every U.S. traveler over 18 must be REAL ID compliant. In Rhode Island, there is no additional cost if you apply for a REAL ID during your renewal period.
